February 2025

The Falkland Islands Maritime Authority (FIMA) proudly welcomes the homecoming of two Falklands-flagged trawlers, Argos Berbes and Prion. Both vessels have been granted licenses to participate in the highly anticipated loligo fishing season, which commences on March 1st in the Falkland Islands’ Inner and Outer Conservation Zones.

Both the Argos Berbes and Prion feature state-of-the-art fishing and vessel technology, making them among the most modern vessels of their kind. Noteworthy design elements include an inverted bow, LED lighting, reflecting the maritime industry’s shift toward more energy-efficient solutions, and soundproofed accommodation areas, which are essential for ensuring crew comfort onboard.

Falkland Islands Ship Registry

As a Category 2 register, the Falkland Islands Ship Registry is limited to commercial vessels not exceeding 150 tons, along with fishing vessels and pleasure crafts, with the exception of the RRS Sir David Attenborough. Currently, the Falkland Islands registry comprises a total of 28 vessels, including fishing boats, research vessels, and recreational crafts.

FIMA extends its congratulations to Fortuna Limited and Orion Fishing Company, subsidiary of Argos Group Ltd, for the successful completion of their respective projects. We look forward to the new opportunities these vessels will bring to the Falkland Islands fishing industry.

FIMA wishes the Prion, Argos Berbes, and all vessels within its registry fair winds and following seas in all their endeavours.
