The 1st November saw the Falkland Islands Maritime Authority launch their third Sea Safety Campaign, sponsored by the Falkland Islands Company, with the focus this month on downing prevention and the risks associated with cold water.
FIMA staff will be delivering four separate Sea Safety presentations at the Falkland Islands Community School to three year groups, Year 11,10 and 9. The aim of these presentations is to educate and promote safety around the waters of the Falklands, how to call for help if you come across someone in difficulty in the water, highlight the dangers of cold water shock and to learn about the Life saving appliances that are available to prevent drowning.
The Falkland Islands are surrounded by very cold waters, but this needn’t be a barrier for those wishing to enjoy the beautiful beaches and the many water sports availible in the Falklands. FIMA remains committed to providing support and education to the people of the Falkland Islands and to advise of risks associated in and around the waters of the Falkland Islands.
