FALKLAND ISLANDS GOVERNMENT
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
16 October 2026
Census night – 18 October 2026
Key information
Census night is this Sunday, 18 October.
Every household in the Falklands is required by law to complete the census. The only people who are exempt are serving members of HM Armed Forces and their families.
If you registered to do the paper census
By the end of today, Friday 16 October, you should have received a census form in the post. Camp paper forms may be delayed if there has not been a recent plane to your location. If this is the case, you can just complete the form when you receive it. If you think you should have received one but haven’t, please get in touch as soon as possible, specifying the address you registered. Paper forms will include a return envelope.
All paper forms will also be accompanied by an online access code, so you will have the option to complete the census online instead if you wish. But please only complete one or the other, not both.
If you registered to do the online census
You will receive an access code by the end of Friday 16 October. Keep this code safe, as you will need it to access the online census. If you requested to receive your access code by email but no one in your household has received one, check your spam folder. If you still haven’t received one, please get in touch as soon as possible, specifying the address you registered. The online census will open at 1pm on Sunday 18 October.
If you did not register in advance
We have tried to identify the current resident for each address that was not registered in advance. If neither you nor the owner of your residence has received a form by the end of Friday, please get in touch as soon as possible, specifying the address where you reside.
When do I have to fill it in?
Every household that has received a form or an access code should complete the census on the evening of Sunday 18October. Only those individuals who require help or who have not received a form or access code should fill it in any later.
What if I need help?
If you don’t understand the questions or don’t know how to respond, there will be two support lines open on Sunday evening, from 6pm to 10pm. The numbers are 28422 and 28437. These lines will continue to be monitored 8am–4:30pm over the following week, as will the email address [email protected]. Support in Spanish will be available from this email address, and from 28422.
There will also be two drop-in sessions for those who are not able to complete the census on Sunday evening:
- Tuesday 20 October, 4pm–7pm, Chandlery
- Thursday 22 October, 8am–4:30pm, Harbour Lights meeting room, Malvina House Hotel (access elevator available)
Paper forms will be distributed to all residents of Tussac House, and community care teams will arrange support though families or the census team for those who require help. Spanish and Tagalog forms are available upon request.
What do I need to fill in?
Part 1 of the census collects information about your household. Every household must fill this information in. If you have registered other properties that will be unoccupied on census night, you still need to fill in Part 1 for each of those properties.
Part 2 collects information about individuals. Every person who is normally resident in your household should fill this part in or have someone fill it in on their behalf. This includes students who are currently overseas, people who are out of the islands on holiday or work trips, and people who are receiving medical treatment overseas.
Part 3 collects information about temporary visitors. If anyone in your household is temporarily visiting the Falklands (3 months or less), you should fill in this part on their behalf.
For further information, contact the census team on 28422 or 28437, email [email protected], or visit the Policy Office, Secretariat, Stanley.
