FALKLAND ISLANDS GOVERNMENT – PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
12-month suspension of PRP applications 30 July 2026
It has been five years since the last amendments to the Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) system, and Executive Council has taken the decision that a full review is now required to assess whether the system continues to operate in the best interests of the Falkland Islands.
This is considered necessary to ensure that the granting of permanent residence is well managed, and remains based on applicants’ tangible contributions to the Islands’ community.
It would be impossible for the Immigration Dept to undertake this major piece of work while also continuing to process applications as usual, so a 12-month suspension of PRP applications has been approved. This will take effect from 1September this year, meaning that 1 September 2027 is the earliest that applications will be received again.
New Guidance and Forms will be available in time for the return of the PRP system.
