{"id":54,"date":"2026-05-14T06:43:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T05:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/policy\/?page_id=54"},"modified":"2026-06-03T09:20:43","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T08:20:43","slug":"trade-with-the-eu","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/policy\/economic-development\/trade-with-the-eu\/","title":{"rendered":"Trade with the EU"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"yoast-breadcrumbs\"><span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/policy\/\">Home<\/a><\/span> \u00bb <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/policy\/economic-development\/\">Economic Development<\/a><\/span> \u00bb <span class=\"breadcrumb_last\" aria-current=\"page\">Trade with the EU<\/span><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:4vh\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-post-title\">Trade with the EU<\/h1>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:4vh\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-content-justification-left is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-7f51fafc wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Falkland Islands are not deemed part of the European Single Market. <br><strong>However under the current OAD, the Islands have:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Full freedom of access to the EC market (unlike African-Caribbean-Pacific States) for products originating in the OCTs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free access to the EC market for non-originating products in circulation in the OCTs after the EC customs duty has been paid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OCTs may give preference to their inhabitants for trade in services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The most important trade issue with the EU currently is that of &#8216;Rules of Origin&#8217; &#8211; mainly affecting the export of fish. In the 2001 OAD there is a requirement that for fish to be exported to the EU tariff-free then 50% of crew on those vessels be EU, OCT or ACP nationals, which is not realistic for FI vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To overcome this the Falkland Islands Government secured a derogation of this requirement such that the rule does not apply for the Falkland Islands.
