Crime
The majority of crimes are property related rather than being against people. These include vehicle theft, criminal damage and burglary.
Some simple steps can help with crime prevention including:
- locking your doors and windows and removing the keys from the lock
- upgrading the locks on your doors or windows
- ensuring that sheds or outbuildings are secure
- locking your car and ensuring that windows and sun roofs are closed
- not leaving items in an unoccupied vehicle
- storing your vehicle in a garage if you have one
- don’t leave valuable items in clear view of windows
When planning a night out, think ahead to help with your personal safety:
- Make sure your mobile phone is fully charged
- Consider how you are going to get home
- Don’t drink too much
- Don’t leave drinks unattended
- Stick with your friends

Motoring
You will be aware that some of those involved in the Falkland Islands war from both sides continue to be sensitive about certain things related to their experiences in 1982 and we therefore ask that you respect Officers will deal with any driving complaints that are reported to them if there is suitable evidence to show that the driving was dangerous or done without due care or attention. However, on most occasions we end up with one driver’s word against another.
Action will always be taken when witnesses are co-operative and evidence is available. If you witness driving of a poor standard while you have passengers in your car then please ask them if they are happy to give statements to the Police, as this helps us greatly.
Fixed Penalty Notices (sometimes known as tickets) are issued for low level motoring offences, these can include failure to display a valid vehicle licence (tax disc), low level speeding and parking offences.
Each FPN is individually numbered and once issued cannot be withdrawn.
If you wish to contest an FPN, please apply to the courts.
If you are involved in a road traffic collision (RTC) you should always stop at the scene, if somebody is injured you should report the collision to us immediately.
You should report all RTCs to us within 24 hours and an officer will then be in touch to complete a process report for our records.
If there is damage to another vehicle, property or any animals you should also make reasonable attempts to contact the owners and provide them with your name, address and contact information if requested.
From 1st November 2018 all driving examination dates will need to be booked at the Training Centre.
