FIG Data Management<\/h1>\n\n\n

The IMS-GIS data centre project started in September 2013. The intent was to build a comprehensive and standard information system across the South Atlantic UK Overseas Territories and to overcome the lack of a single information space\/network where data can be discovered, accessed and stored. The Falkland Islands data centre is what the IMS-GIS data centre has become, and is the central data repository for all the environmental data collected within the Falklands by local and international organisations and individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data management policy and the procedures are available at SAERI, FIG, FC and SMSG websites. All the documents mentioned in this policy are available at the Falkland Islands data centre website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data acquired by the Falkland Islands Government under Exploration Licences or Production Licenses (as governed by The Offshore Petroleum (Licensing) Regulations 1995, The Offshore Petroleum (Licensing) Regulations 2000 and The Petroleum Survey Licences (Model Clauses) Regulations 1992) from the relevant licensees may be requested to be made available by the Falkland Islands Government to bona-fide exploration companies interested in exploring in the North Falkland Basin, South Falkland Basin and Falkland Plateau Basin and also to academic individuals and organisations for research and teaching purposes only.  The decision to release data is made by FIG\/ the Governor and only once the data are greater than 5.5 years old (or greater than 10 years in the case of seismic data acquired under exclusive licence arrangements), unless the Governor agrees to extend the confidentiality period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
