{"id":941,"date":"2023-04-13T08:55:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T07:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/maritimeauthority\/?p=941"},"modified":"2026-02-13T08:56:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T08:56:21","slug":"changing-of-the-guard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/maritimeauthority\/changing-of-the-guard\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing of the Guard"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Yesterday marked the end of an era when we said good bye and farewell to the Falkland Islands Fishery Protection Vessel&nbsp;<em>Protegat.<\/em>\u2019 who has spent the past 15 years protecting the waters around the Falkland Islands from Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) vessels and assisting the Falkland Islands Fisheries Department in managing their Fisheries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Protega<\/em>t started her patrolling duties with the Falkland Islands Government in 2008 taking over from Fishery Protection Vessel&nbsp;<em>Dorada<\/em>. She has been home to many crews over her 15 years of service with many Masters at the helm during that time, but one Master that deserves a special mention is Captain Charles Ferguson who has commanded the Protegat since 2008.
