This year\u2019s Red Ensign Group (REG) conference 2025 was held in Guernsey attended by the Falkland Islands Maritime Authority, represented by Chris Moorey Head of Maritime, Steuart Barlow Harbour Master and David Fuller Chief Surveyor along with maritime representatives from the UK, Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories. This annual event serves as an invaluable platform to exchange experiences and expertise, address shared challenges and explore effective solutions in their roles as coastal states. Participants from across the globe are convened to discuss key maritime issues, including the duties of coastal states, their registries, environmental protection, pollution control, and decarbonisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s conference, focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and domestic shipping. As the body responsible for upholding marine safety standards across the thirteen British Shipping Registers, the REG used this opportunity to assess ways to enhance the global performance of the Registers and promote the sharing of best practices among members. Chris Moorey has offered the view \u201cit was hugely encouraging to see the warm, positive and productive interaction between such diverse maritime administrations \u2013 diverse in terms of size and geography but with so much in common\u201d. The Falkland Islands Maritime industry is unique in its operation, through all the challenges it has had to face, our industry sits in a position where it can offer valuable knowledge whilst still learning from other REG member. The Red Ensign Group is a powerful force and beneficial in many ways.
