About FIMA
The Maritime Authority sits within the Directorate of Emergency Services and Island Security (DESIS) and has the responsibility to implement and enforce maritime standards on vessels in our waters, and on those flagged to the Falkland Islands.
Areas of responsiblity and interest include:
- Hydrographic data and charts
- Buoyage and navigational lights
- Search & Rescue coordination
- Accident and incident investigation on board vessels in our waters
- Propagation of meteorological and navigation warning information
- Training provision and coordination in areas such as Oil Spill Response
- Legislation & guidance on maritime matters
