The Chief Medical Officer is the Government’s chief adviser on health issues and public health. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

These responsibilities include some aspects of environmental health, including food handling and hygiene.\u00a0The hospital\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0 pathology laboratory assists in this by analysing samples of water, milk, meat, fish, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the approval of a Public Health Strategy in 2019, the development and delivery of evidence based initiatives to improve the wellbeing of the Falkland Islands community is supported by the Public Health Unit<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Public Health Unit<\/a> provides additional resource for research, population health monitoring and the development of policy and intervention programmes to target disease prevention. The unit works closely with colleagues in Health and Social Services Directorate, as well as across other government departments and the community, to ensure joined up thinking with regards to public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
