What do we do?

The EWS provide a mental health and emotional wellbeing service for the population of the Falkland Islands, including Stanley, Camp and Mount Pleasant Complex. As highly qualified practitioners who specialise in mental health and psychological therapy, the EWS work to assess and diagnose mental health problems, and deliver treatment options.

Psychological therapies:

We offer a range of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Psychological therapies may be one-to-one or may be in a group setting. You and your clinician will work together to decide how many sessions you will need and how frequently you will need to be seen.

Medication:

If medication is recommended, the EWS will work with you and your GP to choose the medication that is right for you and to monitor how well the medication works for you.

Consultation, Training and Signposting:

Sometimes, you do not need medication or psychological therapy, but we may be able to help by offering consultation or training to you or others involved in your care. Sometimes we are able to help you access self-help materials or other services that may meet your needs better.

Who uses our services?

Anyone who experiences concerns about their mental health and emotional wellbeing can access our service. We work with people of any age and with any type of mental health difficulty.

How do I access the EWS?

We accept referrals from GPs and other professionals, but you can also refer yourself without going to the doctor.

Just call 28082 or email [email protected] to request a referral form.

If you don’t like filling in forms, we can do it for you over the phone.

What happens if I refer myself or get referred to the EWS?

Once we receive your referral we aim to contact you within 2 working days to arrange an initial assessment.

An initial assessment lasts for approximately one hour and this is a chance for you to discuss your concerns with a clinician. You and the clinician will then create a care plan together about what support you may need going forwards.

Confidentiality will be discussed at the start of your appointment. Please ask any questions or express any concerns you may have about confidentiality.
