Many invasive species, pests and diseases are confined to just a few areas so it is important that we do all we can to prevent the spread of organisms around and between the islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;height:1vh\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-f4b2bd1b-0466-400e-95e9-b8b540fc67b5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/agriculture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2026\/03\/Inter-island-Biosecurity-WP-Aug-2018.pdf\">Inter-island Biosecurity<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.fk\/agriculture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2026\/03\/Inter-island-Biosecurity-WP-Aug-2018.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button wp-element-button\" download aria-describedby=\"wp-block-file--media-f4b2bd1b-0466-400e-95e9-b8b540fc67b5\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1vh\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dirty boots,&nbsp;clothes, outdoor equipment and&nbsp;vehicle tyres&nbsp;can introduce pest plants and&nbsp;creatures and also&nbsp;transmit disease from an affected wildlife colony to a clean one. To limit the risk it is important for ALL people travelling around the Falkland Islands&nbsp;by&nbsp;land,&nbsp;sea or air&nbsp;to clean&nbsp;any dirty items between trips. This is particularly true if there are known or suspected cases of contagious wildlife diseases in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contaminates should be brushed off footwear, clothing and equipment. Ideally the removed debris should be bagged and destroyed. To prevent spread of disease, a disinfectant boot dip such as Virkon should be used to clean footwear. If this is not available a weak bleach solution will be sufficient.
